Special Hazards
Baghouse Fires
Baghouse fires or explosions can result in facilities where
pneumatic conveying and
air filtration systems are combined with normal manufacturing
processes. The industries at the
highest risk of baghouse fires
employ drying, cutting, grinding and other abrasive processes
where sparks
and even fires are generated.

How a Baghouse Fire or Explosion Happens
A baghouse fire or explosion results when these normal manufacturing
processes produce a spark which is then picked up by the
pneumatic system and transported along with highly combustible
wood chips, dust or other finely divided particles. When
that spark reaches the collector or storage bin, a baghouse
fire is very possible.
The Consequences of a Baghouse Fire or Explosion
Even one such baghouse fire or explosion can result in damages ranging from costly repairs and down time to loss of plant facilities or even worse… an expensive price to pay for a baghouse fire or explosion which could have been avoided.
